Product comparison
Rescape and CADMapper solve a similar problem differently.
Both turn public geographic data into editable design files. Rescape is currently the stronger fit when you want a transparent per-area price, flexible boundary tools or a printable STL. CADMapper is the more established choice when native SketchUp or Rhino output is essential today.
Competitor facts checked against CADMapper's public pages on September 12, 2026
At a glance
| Capability | Rescape | CADMapper |
|---|---|---|
| Current exports | Layered DXF and printable STL | CAD formats for AutoCAD, SketchUp, Rhino and Illustrator workflows |
| Choose a region | Rectangle, rounded rectangle, circle, arc or polygon; exact coordinates also work | Define an area with its online map tool |
| Small custom area | Free below 1 km² | Free up to 1 km², according to its public site |
| Larger custom area | $5 + $0.60/km², shown before checkout | Paid files up to 100 km², with academic discounts advertised |
| Ready-made places | A growing catalogue of inspectable regions that open directly in the editor | More than 200 free, simplified 2D metro road-network files |
| Data expectations | Open-data context geometry; coverage, currency and building heights vary | Public-source data; building height and topography are available in many locations |
Choose Rescape when
- You need DXF context and a printable STL from the same selected region.
- A polygon, circle or coordinate-defined boundary fits the project better than a simple box.
- You want to see an exact, formula-based price before submitting.
- You want to inspect Rescape's location pages and open the same boundary in the map.
Choose CADMapper when
- You need its native SketchUp or Rhino workflow now; Rescape does not yet export SKP or 3DM.
- One of its free simplified whole-city road-network files already matches your need.
- Your established office workflow already depends on its layer and file conventions.
- You need a custom region above Rescape's current self-service limits.
Neither product is survey data
The useful promise here is speed and editability, not authoritative geometry. Rescape assembles terrain, buildings, roads, water, land use and vegetation from open datasets. Coverage, source dates, elevation resolution and building-height completeness vary by location. Check the result before relying on it for a design decision, and do not use it for surveying, engineering or construction documentation.
